Losing is just part of any sport.

But after a tough game against Monte Vista High School, the boys soccer team still has one player to rave about.

During a 8-3 loss against Monte Vista High School on Dec. 5, senior Juan Barragan played his hardest and ended up scoring all three of Morse’s goals that night.

Barragan was the talk of the game among his teammates after the match against Monte Vista.

“It doesn’t feel good to lose, but I try to do my best every game,” Barragan pointed out. “I was fortunate enough to be able to score three goals that night.”

Even though Morse lost the match, Barragan does not believe his diligence went to waste.

“It doesn’t matter if we are winning 4-0 or losing 5-1,” Barragan urged. “If we lose concentration though, then we are bound to make mistakes which results in us losing.”

From just beginning the season two weeks ago, Morse’s boys soccer team has been defeated in five games.

“We cannot win them all,” stressed Andres Vargas, head coach for Morse boys soccer. “What is important from each game, regardless of the result, is that we take away something we learned from that match and build on that to improve.”

At the start of the season, the soccer team still has a lot to work on in addition to practicing. Not only are they aiming to win matches, but they want to achieve much more as a team.

“Our goal is to establish ourselves an identity as a team,” Vargas suggested. “Once we can work together and find our image, we can then accomplish better results.”

Because the season is still new, the soccer team still has a lot of time to improve and work towards their goals.

“Teaching our team the tradition of commitment, hard work, and the desire to get better is the only way to deal with the adversity and to get to where we want to be,” Vargas believed.

The beginning of the season does not always predict how the end of the season will turn out to be.
