An advisory period will be implemented in the 2018-2019 school year in order to build stronger relationships between students and teachers and give students a safe platform in which to speak.

The advisory period will be held every Tuesday and Thursday for 20 minutes after the nutritional break.

“We want to make social, emotional, and academic connections between teachers and students,” said Carlie Nemecek, a member of the advisory committee. “Our goal is to give students an adult on campus whom can trust.”

“There is a need for mentorship,” added principal Cynthia Larkin. “Lots of students feel they don’t have a trusted adult on campus.”

Class sizes are purposefully being limited in order to create a more intimate environment in the classroom.

“Advisory will be a place for students to make an impact,” Nemecek stressed. “Students having a place where they can be heard and express themselves is vital for success.”

The 20 minute period is also meant to be an opportunity for students to build positive relationships with one another as well as with their advisor.
