MECHA began practicing dance choreography to represent National Hispanic Heritage Month by performing at the Parent Teacher Student Association (PTSA) meeting in the auditorium on Sept 26, 2018.

MECHA practiced dancing baile folklorico, which is Spanish for “folkloric dance,” on Wednesdays and Thursdays leading up to the day of the event.

“It’s part of my culture, so I feel glad that I’m doing something from said culture,” said  Alexandra Navarro, the president of MECHA.

The group that will be dancing at the PTSA meeting will consist of at least four members for their performance; dancing to Jalisco’s second national anthem of Mexico, “El Son de la Negra,”

“Every state in Mexico has its own style of baile folklorico,” added Navarro, “so every time they perform, they’re bringing in a little part of their culture and share it with the rest of the people.”
