Girl’s golf was up to par with their Channel 10 News interviews.

The girl’s golf club was interviewed by Steve Smith of Channel 10 News after their golf match on Sep. 18, 2017 against San Diego High School, in order to publicize how a golf club from an inner city school is like compared to others.

“Being highlighted on Channel 10 News is good publicity for our club and school,” expressed golf coach Rex Calvin. “This could really get us out there and help people learn a lot about our program.”

Seniors Angelina Felipe and Michaela Paule were the two main players to be interviewed by Channel 10 News, being asked how they got into golf and how it feels to compete. Senior Ruth Navarra was also highlighted by being filmed while playing, along with others on the team.

“I was pretty nervous at first because it was my first time being on camera,” said Felipe. “But I had experience talking to people so I got over it quickly.”

This year’s golf team has had its ups and downs because of the many new varsity players coming in. Calvin and the experienced players spent much of their time training the rookies to be able to compete.

“To me, this year was a rebuilding year,” said Calvin. “With all the new players coming in we had a lot of catching up and training to do.”

The girl’s golf team has won two games this season, recently beating Hilltop in a forfeit match on their senior night on Sep. 27, 2017.

“It was a great season to me,” said Felipe. “Being my last year playing golf for Morse, I made a lot of memories and I hope the golf team continues to strive for success.”

The golf team certainly scored a hole-in-one with their Channel 10 highlights.
